IND vs ENG T20 series India's squads: The trio of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, and Rahul Tewatia - the standout performers from IPL 2020 have earned maiden national call-ups as India announces their squad for the five-match T20I series against England which will succeed the Test Series from March 12 in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led Team India made six changes to the team from the Australian tour Down Under. Take a look at India's squads for the forthcoming T20I series underlined below.
The squad comes with a lot of surprises with plenty of new faces, some key players rested, some unavailable due to injuries, and of course, some players are dropped too. The BCCI has once again named a 19-member T20I squad vs England, beginning from March. Samson, Agarwal have been dropped, while Bumrah has been rested in contention for the upcoming 14th edition of IPL 2021. Jadeja, Shami, and Manish Pandey too sidelined with their respective injuries.
The rookie right-handed batsman Suryakumar Yadav is the most experienced cricketer of the trio, while Ishan Kishan, who played a scintillating 173-run knock against MP in the Vijay Hazare Trophy's opener ahead of the squad announcement. The Mumbai Indians' batsman comes in for Samson, who was the second wicket-keeper in India's last few series.
The 27-year-old swashbuckling all-rounder Rahul Tewatia, who made his abilities known with stellar performances in IPL 2020, particularly an innings where he went from struggling on 5 off 13 balls to hit 8 sixes overall, including five in Sheldon Cottrell's over to take Rajasthan Royals to victory against Punjab Kings (former Kings XI Punjab).
Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Y Chahal, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, W Sundar, R Tewatia, T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep, Shardul Thakur. https://t.co/KkunRWtwE6— BCCI (@BCCI) February 20, 2021
Axar Patel and Tewatia are also included in the squad to cover up for India's flamboyant all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. While Axar has already played 11 games. It seems that IPL has been the major driving force behind all the selections as has been seen from KKR’s Varun Chakravarty too.
Moreover, Rishabh Pant would be the primary wicket-keeper in the squad alongside Kishan. That means KL Rahul, who was perceived to be the main wicketkeeper in the ODIs won’t be given keeping duties during the tour. The main reason behind it could be Pant’s dazzling performance with the bat and gloves during the ongoing India and England series.
