He last played international cricket during the semi-final of the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup in which India lost to New Zealand. The 39-year-old World Cup winning captain announced his retirement on social media. Quotes “Thanks, Thanks a lot for your love & support throughout from 19:29 hrs consider me as retired”.

Dhoni, who began as a valiant and hard-hitting batsman, later became the mainstay of Indian middle-order for his consistent run making. Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on Independence Day.
