Indian Premier League IPL 2021: With the conclusion of IPL 2021 auctions in Chennai on Thursday where South African all-rounder Chris Morris emerged to be the most expensive buys in IPL history, going to Rajasthan Royals (RR) for INR 16.25 cr. Hard-hitting Karnataka all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham came out to be the costlier 'Uncapped Indian player' at the IPL 2021 auction, sold to MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 9.25 cr. He was released by Punjab Kings (Kings XI Punjab) ahead of the auction.
Krishnappa Gowtham, a right-handed batsman and an off-spinner, has created waves in the domestic circuit. His ability to pick up wickets with the ball, coupled with his power-hitting abilities, makes him a genuine all-rounder. He has come into the auction at a base price of only Rs 20 lakhs.

Gowtham said, "To be honest, I never expected this price. That said, money isn't the priority, opportunity is. I'm thrilled to be joining Chennai Super Kings. It is a dream come true to be part of a team led by MS Dhoni. I've always idolized Dhoni. I've always tried my best to emulate his calmness on the field and commitment to the game. I'm looking forward to being part of the team."
"As a cricketer you would like to play all matches. But I guess that one over against Mumbai Indians cost me my place in the team. But those are situations we have to endure as cricketers. I don't believe in looking back, instead I take the positives from the lessons learnt and look ahead," the Karnataka ace added.
Notably, Gowtham has played for the season one champions Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2018 and 2019 before he was picked by Punjab Kings (PNBS) ahead of the 2020 season. He has grabbed eyeballs and has forced his way into the spotlight after some scintillating performances in the 2018 season with his power-hitting, especially in the death overs.
The 32-year-old has played 62 T20Is in his career and has scored 594 runs at a brutal strike rate of 159.24. He has 41 wickets under his belt in the shortest format of the game at an impressive economy rate of 7.60.
