IPL 2020: Rahul Tewatia played a blinder knock with 7 sixes

RR vs KXIP IPL 2020: Young Indian talented all-rounder Rahul Tewatia, who played a blinder of a knock as he smashes a blistering half-century with 7 sixes including 5 sixes in an over of West Indies pacer Sheldon Cottrell as recorded the highest successful run chase in IPL history, defeating KL Rahul's Kings XI Punjab by four wickets in a high-scoring encounter yesterday at the high-scoring venue of Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Kings XI Punjab opener Mayank Agarwal's maiden IPL century goes in vain. He scored 106 runs and it was his first-ever IPL century in this biggest fantasy cricket league of IPL.

In an unbelievable turn of events, Rahul Tewatia (53 off just 31 balls with 7 sixes), who was struggling to connect the ball in the starting phase of the match, one time he hardly picks a single and was at a score of 8 from 19 balls when his partner Sanju Samson smashes the ball all around the park. But after Samson gets out, Tewatia suddenly shifted gears as he hoisted Cotrell for 4 consecutive sixes of his first 4 balls, then 5th one was the dot ball but he doesn't miss out on the 6th and lifted over square leg fens for six and made it 5 in an over that amazes his team-mates in the dugout as well as the fielding side.

It was the highest successful run-chase in IPL history, earlier record which also belongs to Rajasthan Royals, who hits 217 runs while chasing 215 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (old name Deccan Chargers) in 2008. Earlier in the match, Sanju Samson continued his dream run with a superb knock of 85 (42) and rewarded Man of the Match while captain Steve Smith also contributed 50 (27) as Rajasthan Royals continued their winning run. RR reached the 2nd place at the points table.

Steve Smith and Co chasing a mammoth total of 224 runs, the RR needed 51 runs from the last three overs and it seems that KXIP win it easily but all credit goes to Rahul Tewatia, who turned the match towards Rajasthan Royals in a dramatic fashion, smashing 30 runs with 5 huge sixes from Sheldon Cottrell in the 18th over of the match. In the 19th over, England quality all-rounder Jofra Archer smashes 2 consecutive sixes off Mohammad Shami's over and Tewatia banged the 3rd to make it easy stuff to RR and they need only 2 runs in the final over which they got comprehensively at the end and won the match by 4 wickets and grabs the second spot on the points table.

Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals take on two-time IPL winners Kolkata Knight Riders in their next encounter on 30th of September at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.
