In the commencing fixture of the Indian Premier League 2020, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings beat Rohit Sharma's Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets. Mumbai have now won the opening fixture since 2013.

IPL 2020 MI vs CSK:  The Dad army got better of Hitman Squad as Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by five wickets in the opening fixture of the Indian Premier League 2020. The long awaited IPL 2020 finally kicked off with Holders Mumbai Indians going up against Chennai Super Kings in a no person in attendance match played in Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. 

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and invited Mumbai Indians to bat first. Captian Rohit sharma and Quin De Kock started the innings for MI. Piyush Chawla got their first breakthrough for CSK in the form of Rohit Sharma. Hitman tried to hit the ball over the mid off but ended up giving a simple catch in Sam Curran's hand. MI lost another quick wicket, Sam Curran sent dangerous looking De Kock back to Pavillion. Suryakumar Yadav and Sourav Tiwary took the command and carried team's total to total. Apart from Sourav Tiwary ( 42 runs in 31 balls), no Mumbai Indians players could cross the 20 runs mark. The Mumbai Indians middle order collapsed cheaply and somehow Mumbai managed to set a target of 163 runs to Chennai.

While Chasing Chennai were 2/6 at one point with opener Murli Vijay and Shane Watson back to the pavilion. Next were, Ambati Rayadu and Faf Du Plessis on the crease. They slowly and steadly atlered the pressured situation in their favor. 115 runs partnership was finally broken by Rahul Chahar as he got Rayadu out in the 16th over. Next with Jadega returning quickly, MI tried to make a comeback but a stromy cameo for Sam Curran one again turned the tides in CSK favor. On the second delivery of the 19th over Du plessis sweeps the ball towards the deep mid-wicket boundary for four winning the match in style for his team. He scored 58* runs in 44 balls. 

Mumbai Indians have not won the opening game of the season sine IPL 2013. Now, they have lost eight opening fixture post 2013. Mumbai despite having a decent start in both batting and bowling could not carry forward the momentum. On the other Chennai despite having slow start to the game made a comeback and comfortably registered their 12 IPL victory against Mumbai Indians.

Chennai Super Kings will next face Rajasthan Royals on 22nd of September and Mumbai Indians will battle out against Kolkata Knight Riders on Spetember 23.
