In the 12 years, history of IPL fans have witnessed numerous extraordinary innings, innings where balls rarely landed inside the boundary rope, innings where bowlers are mere spectators. Since IPL is a T20 league, players don't take much time to settle and start power hitting from the beginning. There strategy to get the maximum runs on every ball sometimes work sometimes not. Here we list down the top five innings in which batsmen smashed the maximum number of sixes in an inning.

AB De Villiers- Royal Challengers Bangalore
The South African international scored 129* runs in 52 balls with a strike rate of 248.07 against Gujrat Lions on 14th May 2016. He smashed 10 boundaries and 12 sixes in his inning. He did 200+ runs partnership with Skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli also scored 109 runs in the match. RCB won the match by 145 runs. AB De Villiers won the man the match for his blistering inning.
On 6th May 2015 Royal Challengers Bangalore faced Kings XI Punjab in the 40th match of the season. Batting first Chris Gayle scored 117 runs in 57 balls with a strike rate of 205.26. He hit seven fours and 12 sixes during his furious inning. Kings XI Punjab lost the match by 138 runs. Gayle was also awarded with man of the match award for his performance.
It looks like Chris Gayle has the habit of hitting more than sixes rather than boundaries in his innings. In a match against Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals now) on 17 May 2012, Gayle was at his usual best. He scored 128 runs on 62 balls with a strike rate of 206.45. Gayle completely destroyed Delhi bowlers as he smashed seven boundaries and 13 sixes. RCB won the match by 21 runs and Chris Gayle bagged the Man of the Match award.
Brandon Mccallum was one of the lethal players during his playing days. In the opening fixture of the inaugural season (2008) Mccallum scored 158 runs in 73 balls with an impressive strike rate of 216.43. This is the second-highest score by an Individual in the history of IPL. Batting first the New Zealand international started the innings for KKR. He hammered 10 fours and 13 sixes during his show. Kolkata Knight Riders won the match by 140 runs.
At the number one position, it's none other Chris Gayle. The Caribbean International completely dominates the list. In a match against Pune Warriors on 23rd April 2013 Gayle scored 175* runs on 66 balls with a rapid strike rate of 265.15. This is the highest score by an individual in the history of IPL. He demolished Pune bowling line up and hammered 13 boundaries and 17 sixes. RCB won the match by 130 runs. Gayle was usual won the Man of the Match award.
