AUS vs IND: Youngsters Will Pucovski and Cameron Green were rewarded for their stellar performances in domestic cricket as the duo were named in Australia's 17-man squad for the upcoming Test series against India. Virat's Men in Blue will kick-start their International schedule from November 27. Both David Warner and Steve Smith, who missed the 2018-19 home series due to the Ball-tampering ban, will be available this time around. In the absence of two of their greatest players, Australia had lost their first-ever Test series to India on home soil.
Meanwhile, India’s tour of Australia will begin with three ODIs starting November 27 in Sydney, followed by three T20I and four Tests. The T20I series will begin at Manuka Oval on December 4. After that, the four-Test match series will begin from December 17, 2020, with the historic Day/Night Test at Adelaide Oval.
It features some youngsters in the likes of Will Pucovski and Cameron Green. Both Joe Burns and Will Pucovski included in Australia A squad for the two practice matches against India. Will Pucovski and Cameroon Green have been called up to a 17-men Australia squad for four-match Vodafone Test Series.
The Aussie pacers Sean Abbott and Michael Neser were also named along with spinner Mitch Swepson. All of them make their Test debut in the upcoming series, which is an important one for Australia not only due to the fact that India beat them at home the last time they toured but also due to the financial issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Explaining the selections of Cameron Green and Will Pucovski, national selector Trevor Hohns said:
"What we saw in the opening rounds of the Marsh Sheffield Shield were a number of players performing exceptionally well. Two of those many standout players were, of course, Cameron Green and Will Pucovski."
He also added:
"Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent.”
22-year-old Pucovski has amassed 495 runs at an average of 247.5 in the opening rounds of Sheffield Shield this year. He could be a contender to open the innings with David Warner, considering Joe Burns has not been in great form of late.
