ENG vs SL 1st Test:  The much-awaited Test series between England and Sri Lanka (ENG vs SL) will commence on Thursday, January 14 at Galle International Stadium, Galle. The opening Test is being slated at 10:00 AM according to IST. Here is our ENG vs SL 1st Test match preview, Dream11 prediction, pitch report, playing 11, injury updates, and live streaming details are given below.

Joe Root-led England cricket team will be hoping to repeat their last tour down under in Sri Lanka as they look to stay in contention for the ICC WTC finals to be held in Lord's this year. Australia, India, and New Zealand are in the race, with the Kiwi having finished all their matches in the current cycle. After the end of the two Tests against the hosts, England begins a two-month-long tour against India, kick start on Feb 5.

England have never much success in the Asian sub-continent, lost 0-4 to India the last time they toured. Meanwhile in 2018 England did achieve one boasting success as they clean swept Sri Lanka to become the first side to whitewash Sri Lanka on their home soil.

However, the English side has been concerned about their all-rounder Moeen Ali testing COVID-19 positive and expected to miss the whole Test series. This means Dom Bess and Jack Leach would be England’s frontline spinners. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer have been rested from this tour. Dan Lawrence might make his Test debut while there could be a toss-up between Jonny Bairstow and Ben Foakes.

On the other hand, the Sri Lanka cricket team has plagued by a lot of injuries and lost by 0-2 at the hands of South Africa. After the end of the second Test against South Africa, the Lankan side has hoped for the return of three key players in the likes of Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, and Suranga Lakmal for the forthcoming Test series against England. So, the Sri Lanka team would be eager to bounce back and that too in their own backyard.

ENG vs SL 1st Test Pitch Report:

The Galle's pitch provides everything that a spinner wishes for.  However, if batsmen tackle spin well, then runs aren’t that hard to score at this venue. The average score in the first innings will be hovering around 270-300 but the pitch slows down as the game progresses and the batting will become difficult in the 3rd and 4th innings.

There is a forecast of rainfall in the first two days of ENG vs SL 1st Test. However, the curator of SCG is quite hopeful that there would be a full match.
