It was January 2008; the 6'4" inches, 19 years old teenager Ishant Sharma with long hair was spitting fire at Perth. The Australian batsmen were completely rattled, didn’t know what to do. One of the greatest of the game, Mighty Ricky Ponting was completely baffled.
After a tiring long spell of seven overs, Virender Sehwag asked Captain Anil Kumble to give one more over to Ishant. Kumble asked Ishant “Wanna ball one more over?”, and he agreed. After make life hard for Ponting, Ishant finally got the reward for his handwork. On the first delivery of his 8th over Ponting tried to open the face of his bat and was caught behind by Rahul Dravid at first slip. Ishant jumps joyfully and straightaway went to Sehwag and hugged him, later the whole team joined the celebration.
The fierce spell at Perth in 2008 and “ek aur dalega” phrase is forever engraved in the hearts of the cricket fans.

Ishant 13 years long career is filled with ups and downs. After starting brilliantly, he was dropped at number of occasions. His ankle surgery in 2012 forced him to made some necessity changes in his career. Post 2014 Ishant completely shifted his focus on red ball cricket. And the result of his handwork and dedication is clearly seen if we analyze his performance in test matches before and after 2014.
Till 2013 he played 53 Test matches and took 149 wickets. Since 2014, Ishant has taken 149 wicket and it just took him 53 matches. Moreover, He improved his blowing average and became an inevitable part of Indian National team.
He current bowling average is better than top guns like Tim Southee, Trent Boult, Jason Holder, Vernon Philander, Josh Hazelwood, Kemar Roach etc. Ishant Sharma has maximum test wickets in victorious matches of India (150 wickets). He is currently 3rd highest wicket taking pacer in test matches (297 wickets in 97 matches) for India behind Zaheer Khan and Kapil Dev.
With time he has become the India’s test specialist. When it comes to overseas tour like- South Africa, England, Australia etc. Countries where pitches are fast Ishant name is certainly on the team list.
The seamer recently received prestigious Arjuna Award. Dedication, along with hard work, consistency and never giving up attitude with Arjuna Award on top it describes Ishant’s tremendous career.
Ishant will be next seen playing for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL2020 which will take place in UAE due to Corona Virus Pandemic this year. 53 days league will commence from 19th September.
