BAN vs WI 1st Test Highlights: West Indies beat Bangladesh by 3 wickets

BAN - 430 & 223/8 d (Mominul Haque 115, Liton Das 69; Cornwall 3/81)

WI - 259 & 395/7 (Kyle Mayers 210* Bonner 86; Mehdy Hasan 4/113)

Man of the Match: Kyle Mayers

Kyle Myers's unbeaten 210 and Nkrumah Bonner's 86 guides West Indies to an enthralling victory over Bangladesh at Chattogram to take a 1-0 lead in the series. All-rounder Kyle Mayers becomes the first West Indies and overall sixth player to score a Test double century on Test debut and propel the inexperienced visitors to an improbable victory on the final day in Chattogram in the opening Test. Moreover, this is the highest 4th innings run-chase in Asia.

Mayers scored his maiden double-century (210* off 310), comprising 20 fours and 7 sixes after getting a couple of chances. Bonner also gives him good company from the other end as the hosts gun down the unlikely target earlier set by the Bengal Tigers. Mayers has been adjudged 'Man of the Match' for his scintillating double-century.

Having dominated the first four days of the contest, Bangladesh were in for a rude shock as Kyle Mayers's unbeaten 210 led West Indies to a sensational come-from-behind three-wicket win. Needing 285 on the final day, Mayers found the perfect combination in the form of Nkrumah Bonner as the duo add a decent 216-run for the fourth wicket that helped Windies pull off the fifth-highest chase in Tests, and the highest ever in Asia.

''I'm always positive and believed in my ability, and believed that we could get there. We never give up, and keep fighting. The skipper and the coach tell us to keep fighting. Shannon put in a great effort on that wicket and that inspired all of us to do well, said in a post-match presentation.

''It's a great feeling to be playing Test cricket, and then going on to score 100, 200 and then to win the match, it's a really special feeling. I'd love to thank the coach, captain, teammates, coaches and family back home as well. I'm really grateful to everyone. A guy making his debut and scoring a double will definitely inspire youngsters, he added.''

West Indies resumed on 110/3 and 285 away from an improbable win, there were some nervy moments that kept the hosts interested. The hosts have had several chances to break open the day but couldn't convert those. Mayers and Bonner kept Bangladesh wicketless for the two sessions. The hosts, however, broke their partnership in the final session when Taijul Islam dismissed Bonner for 86.

Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque scored a century and Mehidy Hasan picked 3 for 52 as hosts set a target of 395 for West Indies to chase in the fourth innings.
