BAN vs WI 2nd Test Highlights: Day 1 - Stumps

West Indies - 223/5 (Bonner 74* Da Silva 22* Zayed 2/46, Islam 2/64)

The opening Test between Bangladesh and West Indies is being played at Dhaka. Nkrumah Bonner's gritty half-century (74*) propelled the West Indies' innings, with the visitors finishing on 223/5 at the close of play in the Dhaka Test. Bonner shared crucial stands, first with Blackwood (62), and put an unbeaten stand of 45 alongside Joshua Da Silva. At Stumps, Bonner remains unbeaten on 74 while Da Silva (22*) gives him company from the other end.

Tamim-led Bangladesh will be the happier side after losing the toss. Some Windies batters have got starts but couldn't convert into big ones. Bonner hangs in the middle and stitched two crucial partnerships to ensure that the tourists didn't ruin their day anymore. Though, the pitch has offered something for both the pacers as well as spinners, while also allowing runs to be made if the batsmen were willing to graft.

Kyle Mayers, West Indies' standout performer in the first Test, fell cheaply to Jayed for just 5 as West Indies rattling down to 116/4. At that stage, with the tourists in a spot of bother, Blackwood cracked a few eye-catching strokes and held the innings together. BAN bowlers were ruthless early in the morning but soon found their lines and lengths a bit hard. Taijul Islam and Abu Zayed both grabbed a piece for Bangladesh.

Moreover, skipper Kraigg Brathwaite (47) and Campbell (36) have added a handy 50+ stand for the opening wicket. The tourists, who opted to bat, began on an aggressive note against Jayed and Mehidy Hasan. However, Campbell has been looked composed in his brief stay and departs after scoring 36.

Earlier, West Indies have won the toss and opted to bat first. Bangladesh have made three changes in the lineup as Soumya Sarkar, Mohammad Mithun, Abu Jayed come in for Shadman Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mustafizur Rahman. Alzari Joseph comes in for Kemar Roach for the West Indies.
