BAN vs WI 1st ODI: West Indies are touring Bangladesh for three-match ODI and two-match Test Series. The ODI leg starts from January 20 and the first two matches will be played at Dhaka while the third and last ODI will commence at Chattogram. The opening match between Bangladesh and West Indies (BAN vs WI) will be played today at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka. The match will be scheduled at 11:00 AM IST.
Bangladesh Cricket Board has signaled about their intention to build a team for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup so that they hand over their captaincy to Tamim Iqbal and veteran Shakib Al Hasan is back in the side.
Head coach Russell Domingo has clearly stated that Shakib will not be batting at no. 3 this series. Najmul Hossain Shanto is all set to take up that spot with Shakib fitted in the middle order. Soumya Sarkar was hit on the jaw in the nets but the team physician confirmed that there is no reason to worry.
On the other hand, West Indies too have relied on young guns and are giving chances to some new exciting players. So, it's going to be a massive challenge for Jason Mohammed's new side. Windies skipper Mohammed is himself returning to the squad after two years so the combination will depend heavily on Phil Simmons' instinct after seeing four days of training.
Dhaka's pitch is a balanced pitch and supports spinners as like any other Asian venues, and batsmen will score big totals if they stick their eyes onto the crease. The temperature will be hovering around 25-27° Celcius and the sky will be mostly clear without much rain interruptions.
