IND vs AUS Boxing Day Test Highlights: Day 1: Stumps
Brief score: AUS - 166/2 (55 overs) (Labushagne 67*, Smith 31* Saini 1/32, Siraj 1/46)
India and Australia (IND vs AUS) are battling against each other in the third Test of the four-match Test series in Sydney. Opted to bat first, Australia lost Warner cheaply, but after his dismissal, debutant Will Pucovski along with the experienced Labuschagne leading their side with a glitzy 100-run partnership, however, debutant departs after scored a well-made fifty. Labuschagne and Steve Smith further put a decent 50+ stand for the third wicket. At stumps on Day 1, Australia ended with a score of 166/2. Labushagne remains unbeaten on 67 along with Smith who is on the crease after making a fine 31 not out.
The hosts will be the happier side after the completion of day 1 of this SCG Test. The Sydney wicket is a good one to bat on, and it will only get quicker on day two, and batting might get easier. The Australian team will be eyeing for at least 300-run mark to take psychological advantage over India. On the other hand, Ajinkaya Rahane-led Team India will be looking forward to making an impact in the final session of the day.
Debutant Will Pucovski made the most out of the conditions though he survives a couple of times given which allows him to notch up his maiden Test fifty. Navdeep Saini on his debut has been quite impressive with the ball especially post-tea break. Smith also makes a statement by dealing in boundaries to start off his innings. There wasn't much in the pitch for the Indian seamers. For India, both youngsters Siraj and Saini get one scalp so far.
''I'm good, nice to spend a bit of time out there, nice to stitch in a partnership with Marnus. I wanted to put him (Ashwin) under a little bit of pressure which I haven't done this series. Was just trying to hold the grip a bit tighter, I've been struggling, so I was getting into good positions today. Was good to get a couple of boundaries early. Marnus played well, hopefully we go along well tomorrow,'' said Steve Smith after the end of Day 1.
Earlier, Australia have won the toss and have opted to bat first. Will Pucovski makes his debut for Australia. While Rohit Sharma back in the side and young pacer Navdeep Saini also makes his Test debut and he comes in place of injured Umesh Yadav.
